The newly formed Vidor Lions Club is working on several projects. The club’s most energetic undertaking is the creation of the Vidor Lions Veterans Park, “Fields of Freedom. The Veterans Park will be a beautiful, patriotic addition to our community.

Entering the park you’ll be greeted by a 3’ x 7’ monument displaying the painting for which the park is named. “Fields of Freedom” by artist Ray Simon is diamond etched on jet black granite. It will be one of the largest colored markers in the United States. This premier tribute honors those who have committed or sacrificed their lives in protection of our freedoms.

Following a curved sidewalk into the main park you will come face to face with “Gratitude”, a life sized bronze statue of a modern day soldier kneeling before a W.W.II battlefield cross. The monument by artist Scott Stearman represents the thanks we owe to those who have served our country in the past. Enjoy this piece while looking for special features incorporated in the monument: the soldier’s watch set at 9:11, a tear of gratitude on his cheek, authentic details in the uniform and the M-1 Grande rifle battlefield cross from W.W.II.

We invite you to be a part of this beautiful tribute to many brave men and women from our area that have served in our armed forces and have given so much to preserve freedom in our county- our community.  There is much that you can do to help with the development of the Vidor Lions Veteran’s Park “Fields of Freedom”.

The completion date of this project is directly related to the participation and support of our Vidor citizens. EVERYONE CAN HELP!

Do Your Part

Encircling the statue to the south are five 3’ x 7’ jet black granite ledgers listing  veterans who’ve served  in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard. Flags of each service will fly behind their respective marker. Opposite the flags and beyond the “Gratitude” monument is a glass reflection wall and vanishing water fall feature. The center piece of glass will be hand carved by artist Kyle H. Goodwin and will have a beautiful United States flag and full eagle, there will be an item to depict each branch of the service and each branch emblem. As the water splashes on the rocks, soak in the tranquility of the park, read the memorial paving stones under your feet, and reflect on the many blessings afforded us because of our veterans.

We all owe a great deal to those who have gone before, to those serving now, and even a greater responsibility to teach our children not to take their freedoms for granted.

The Vidor Lions Club is excited to present this park to the community. We want all residents of Orange County to feel ownership with the Vidor Lions Veterans Park. Watch the newspaper for forms to place your veteran’s name on the granite service markers.
